Nicholas continues to amaze me.
Last year I needed to send some pictures of Nicholas' ears to Dr. Brent in California. He asked why I was taking pictures of his ears, and I explained to him that I was sending them to a doctor, and that he'd be able to make his little ear look like his big ear. He thought for a little bit, and then asked the big question..."is the doctor a boy or a girl?" He seemed to be relieved that the doctor was a boy. I was relieved that we'll have the surgeries done before he starts hoping for "girl doctors!"
When Scott and I started discussing whether to go to New York in January, he wanted to know what we were talking about. We asked him if he'd like to meet some doctors that can help him with his ears, and meet some boys and girls that have ears just like his. He was very interested that there were other children with ears like his, and then was worried that he wouldn't know their names. I assured him that we could find out what their names were.
Saturday I mentioned to Nicholas that in a few weeks, we would go to Virginia and he would have surgery to help him hear better. Again, he asked if the doctor would be a boy or girl. I told him he'd get to sleep in a hospital bed like the one that Grammy slept in last summer when she hurt her foot. He seemed quite excited about the opportunity to be in such a "fun" bed for awhile.
Sunday evening I was doing some more research regarding the medpor ear, and was reading Miles blog. I was looking at a picture of Miles and Nicholas wanted to know who the boy was. I told him his name was Miles and he used to have a little ear like Nicholas' little ear. Then I showed him this picture and again asked him if he'd like his little ear to match his big ear. He said yes and was off again playing.
Yesterday when I picked him up from school, his speech therapist told me that he told his classmates that he was "going to fly to Virginia (close! I'm just impressed that he remember Virginia!) and get my ear fixed, and it is going to be really cool!"
Hey Nicholas...I think you're really cool!
