Why can't I seem to find the time to update this more often? Maybe because we are so crazy busy with everyday life that it goes to the bottom of my to-do list. Or that I just don't think you'd be interested in our busy day-to-day life!
If any of you are out there that still check to see if I'll ever post another update...here it is:
We are well.
Zachary is great. Loving school. Learning all kinds of educational things, as well as not-so-educational. He sure has come up with some good ones lately...and not so good ones ;o) A few weeks ago I was helping him get dried off after his shower, and here is the conversation (well, it was pretty one-sided, so not really a conversation at all...):
"Mom, watch this."
"You" (points to me)
"Drive" (has his hands like they are on a steering wheel, driving)
"Me" (points to himself)
"Nuts" (and yes, you guessed it, grabbed himself!)
Oy. I was so surprised that a giggle escaped before I promptly told him that was not appropriate and not to do it again.
And then there's Nicholas. He's doing really well and loving school too. Everyone seems to be pleased with his progress, as are we! It's been fun watching his own personality develop.
We went a couple of weeks ago for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Kesser and he seemed quite pleased at how well Nicholas' ear canal looked. He said there were no signs of it narrowing and his hearing test was pretty much the same (better in a couple of spots, 5-10dB worse in a couple of spots). All in all, everything looked great and we don't have to make the 10-hour trip for a year! We will see the ENT in Columbus in 6 months.
While there, we also asked him about Dr. Mark Jones in Atlanta, GA that does Rib-graft reconstructions. He spoke highly of him and said that if it was his child, he wouldn't hesitate to use him. So...tomorrow morning we fly to Atlanta and meet with Dr. Jones Monday morning, then will fly back Monday afternoon. I'm anxious to meet with him and see what my "gut" tells me. For so long (the past 5.5 years!) we've just planned to use Dr. Brent, and now I've heard about this Dr. on the microtia group, and with Dr. Kesser's knowledge of him, we feel the need to check it out. The travel would certainly be easier than California, but we'll see. I just hope that Scott and I get a strong feeling one way or another.
Thanks for checking in on us. It's time for me to go finish packing.
